Note

Entry from Fife Family History Society journal for Oct 2000. From article "The Fife Kalendar", court records, "Andrew Mercer, clock and watchmaker in Kennoway, received 3 months imprisonment at Cupar jail at the CSC 1 May 1876 for assaulting his wife, Agnes Dunsire."

This also reported in the Edinburgh Evening News of 12 May 1876. Andrew Mercer, Kennoway, 3 months for kicking and otherwise abusing his wife. Court at Cupar.

Shared note

Newspaper article - Andrew Mercer and Agnes Dunsire: At a Jury Court held on Thirsday at Cupar, Andrew Mercer, Kennoway, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, without the option of a fine, for kicking and otherwise maltreating his wife. It was stated in defense that the woman was of dissipated habits, and that the injuries had only been inflicted in self-defence, but Sheriff Bell said there was no justification for a man assaulting his wife.
