Hi, my husband’s Grandfather was Stephen Peggie, his Father also named Stephen Peggie. His Grandfather married Mary Adams, and after Stephen was seriously burnt in ‘ The Mary Pit Mine disaster in Fife.’ needing to move to a warmer climate, they set sail with their son, and two daughters to New Zealand, and settled on the West Coast of the South Island, in a thriving coal mining village named Millerton. Stephen then purchased the Criterion Hotel, and with his wife fed the single miners on the hill for many years. They had two more sons, and another daughter named Davina, who was my husband’s Mother.
We note that on a few Family Trees we have viewed, Stephen Peggie and his family are never mentioned. Always wondered why, and guess now we will never know?

It is very interesting for my husband reading ‘ The Peggie and Mercer trees.!

    Thankyou for your time,

    Dale Jefferies.
