Rev. Robert Mercer

Tombstone of The Rev. Robert Mercer.				Kennoway Parish records start in the year 1638 but the earliest occurrence of the Mercer name is that of Robert Mercer, minister of the parish from 27 January 1653 until his death at the age of 84 in February 1682. The Rev. Robert Mercer was the 5th son of James Mercer of Clevage, a member of the Baronial Mercer family of Perth and Aldie. Rev. Robert Mercer had two daughters, Cecil and Alison, to his first wife, Alison Cranstoun, who died "in childbed" on 24th October 1657. He then married Euphan Durie on 28th April 1659 and had a son named Robert. It is possible that the five Mercer siblings referred to on the Family Trees page were descended from Robert or his brother John.
