Note: The David Mercer who married
Margret Baird descends from either -
David Mercer and Margret
Paterson, or
Andrew Mercer and Elizabeth Adamson.
The former is used on this site. It is much more
likely because the baptismal record for his son John states:
"John, son lawful to David Mercer,
younger, and Margaret Baird, his spouse, was baptised before the
congregation." The term "younger" suggests David's father was also named
David.
In addition, an examination of the names of the children shows that they conform very nicely to the
"Scottish Naming Pattern."
